sellers, distributors and recylers of electrical
and electronic equipment containing lead,
mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated
biphenyls or polybrominated diphenyl ethers.
This Directive covers the same scope as
the Directive on waste electrical and electronic
equipment (WEEE) except for medical devices
and monitoring and control instruments.
It also applies to electric light bulbs

orders increase in February |
|
Buyers
increased purchase orders in February and
prices increased, according to PURCHASING
magazine's monthly electronics business
survey.
Orders increased from low levels in January.
Orders usually decline in January after
the holiday selling season. The business
activity index, a measure of purchase orders,
increased from 57.7 in January to 69.7 in
February.

American business is still growing |
|
Many
electronics distributors are concerned about
the migration of high volume manufacturing
to China and other Asia countries. However,
Bruce Goldberg, president and CEO of American
Semiconductor has a different view.
“I see a lot of people paranoid about business
transferring offshore, but I don’t know
if I’m concerned about the impact on our
North American business,” says Goldberg.
“The business that is transferring is stuff
we wouldn’t participate in anyway. The vast
majority of what has transferred has been
high-volume consumer products,” he says.
